Five Steps to a Greener Home
With the high cost of monthly utility bills and global warming concerns on the rise, there is no better time than now to invest in energy-efficient appliances for your home. Eco-friendly appliances help to protect the environment while reducing your utility bills and providing improved comfort for your home. Below are five steps that can help you on your way to a greener home:
1. Replace your incandescent light bulbs with compact florescent light bulbs. Not only do CFLs have a longer life span than incandescent lamps, they also use less energy.
2. Switch to an ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerator. ENERGY STAR qualified models use 20% less energy than non-qualified models.
3. Invest in an energy-efficient furnace. Efficient gas and oil furnaces help reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the same time that they reduce your energy bill.
4. Ditch your traditional water heater for a tankless water heater. These space-saving heaters heat water as it is used, unlike the traditional models that waste energy by heating up the entire tank of water every time there is a demand for hot water.
5. Install an ENERGY STAR qualified air conditioner in your home. Boasting a higher Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) than traditional models, air conditioners with the ENERGY STAR label also increase comfort and have a longer equipment life.
