Kids Indoor Soft Play Safety Checklist
Indoor play areas are incredibly popular in the U.K. They offer a safe, secure environment within which children can mix socially, safely push their physical limits and explore a foam and rubber world of adventure. But rubber flooring does not mean a child is impervious to harm. Here are just a few safety measures parents and guardians can check up on before letting their little adventurers out into the big foam world!
• The best indoor play facilities will carry an inspection report and approval notice from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) The RoSPA provides exceptional Heath & Safety instruction along with strict testing criteria and ongoing monitoring schemes.
• Clear instructions regarding misuse of equipment and ground rules should be displayed. Good instructions will help parents explain and demonstrate limits and rules to children.
• Most indoor play areas contain a large amount of foam pads and safety mats. All foam pads must meet BS 5852 Fire Resistance Standards.
• Netting can sometimes present a bit of a worry for some parents. Netting must be compliant with BS 4409 rules, which state all netting should be easy to cut if a child needs to be freed.
• A facility should be able to produce daily structural and hygiene reports.
A reputable indoor play area will doubtless be used to producing documents and reassuring parents and guardians in terms of safety precautions. If an establishment is unwilling or nervy about producing such documents, it’s often best to find an alternative establishment.
